Associate Degree of Business (Hospitality and Tourism Management)
The Associate Degree of Business (Hospitality and Tourism Management) is embedded in the Bachelor of Business (Hospitality and TourismManagement) and has been designed as an exit qualification.
It prepares students with the skills needed for paraprofessional of hospitality and tourism industry roles and further study at the bachelor level.
The course provides students with a broad general education focusing on developing students’ knowledge and skills in business and hospitality tourism management skills and competencies.
Students are required to study eight core units which include Academic Skills for Success; Marketing Foundations; Business Communication and Stakeholder Management; Principles of Management and Organisations; Foundations of Information Technology; Business and Corporations Law; Statistical Data Analysis for Business; and Leadership and Evidence-based Business Decision Making.
These core units are enhanced with six specialised hospitality and tourism management units which include Introduction of Hospitality and Tourism; Food and Beverage Management; Accommodation Services; Quality Customer Service; Global Innovation and Future Thinking; and Visitor Management.
Some of the higher level units are generic, including those dealing with statistical data analysis, law and leadership. Students select two electives out of a pool of units to complement the core and specialised units.
These studies are designed to produce graduates who have the foundations of a coherent and cohesive body of understanding at the general business and hospitality and tourism management level.

- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
International students must provide evidence of one the following to demonstrate they have successfully met one of the following:
- Successful completion of Year 12 at the credit or above level as determined in Student Admissions Policy or overseas equivalent; or
- Recognised Foundation Studies course; or
- Successful completion of one year of accredited tertiary study at an Australian institution; or
- Successful completion of an Australian Certificate IV; or
- International Baccalaureate with a score of 24.
- Partially completed undergraduate studies in Australia with another provider at the same Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) level or higher. Where the student has passed less than 50% of the units attempted, the student will be placed under the Student at Risk program for monitoring of course progression.
Diploma Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score of 5.5 (no band less than 5.0) or equivalent.
Associate Degree and Bachelor Courses: Academic IELTS overall band score 6.0 (no band less than 5.5) or equivalent.
Successful completion of:
- an accredited course from the Australian Qualifications Framework at Certificate IV level in a related discipline or above, or one-year tertiary study within the past 2 years prior to the course commencement;
- an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education in English;
- a Cambridge CAE & CPE course with 169+;
- the International Baccalaureate (IB) English B Standard Level grade 5, higher-level (A1 or A2) grade 4; at least 2 units of study at AQF Level 5 or higher at an Australian provider within the previous 12 months;
- an approved English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program offered by an ELICOS provider that has been approved under a direct entry agreement;
- an equivalent alternative English Language test approved by the Institute; or
- senior secondary study or at least one year of full-time university in a recognised country, where English language was the medium of instruction (refer to Appendix 3 of the Student Admissions Policy).
