Important Facts
Why AIM?
Empowering Artists Since 1968
The Australian Institute of Music (AIM) is Australia’s first, and only creative institute entirely dedicated to music. Established 1968, AIM has over 50 years’ experience in the industry, empowering more than 6,000 artists – our alumni – to date, teaching them the tools and knowledge to hone their skills and find their place in the music world.
Get Connected to the Music Industries
We are a proud and active member of the global music industries. We do this through internships, networking opportunities and our 2030 Records student-run record label, just to name a few. In music, connections and relationships matter, and here at AIM, we place a high priority on maintaining enduring professional relationships that provide unique opportunities and distinct advantages for our students. As a music education specialist, we have deep connections with organisations across the music industries – from publishing, production and touring to industry bodies and artists. Often these connections involve our academic and professional staff as well as our alumni community. We also foster strong connections across our student body – your future partners and collaborators.
Be a Part of Our Music Community
Your experience at AIM is like no other: we provide you with the foundations for a real career in music. In this industry, it’s all about who you know. And we open the door to your future network made up of industry professionals, starting with your lecturers and fellow artists here at AIM. Our staff are practising musicians and renowned music leaders, with decades of expertise and achievements to their names. Your fellow emerging artist is not just another student. They are your future collaborator, mentor, manager, or producer.
Courses Across All Areas of Music
At AIM, areas of study can be broad, focused, niche, and everything in between. We cover all music disciplines—be it writing, creating, performing, producing, managing or promoting. Course durations range from introductory, short, to in-depth Bachelor or Master’s programs. This allows our artists to choose their own path. Whether that means forming a deep understanding and expertise in one area of study, or to gain holistic insight into the industry.
Ranking / Awards
At AIM we’re committed to developing and promoting the next generation of Australian performing arts talent, both personally and professionally, by providing a platform to help promote our student's music through our 'Off The Record' series.
‘Off The Record’ is a monthly AIM initiative where we invite up-and-coming AIM talent to perform live and an in-depth interview explore the music industry, personal stories and their relationship with their music where we ask where they’re going and how they plan to do it.
The series exists for the sole purpose of showcasing the wide array of exceptional student talent that sits outside our established genres here at AIM. In other words, it's about highlighting a side of AIM you might not usually hear about or see.
It's a platform for our current students and alumni to step up and share their stories and music across our wide subscriber base and +200k social media followers.
