Master of Commerce Finance (Specialisation)

The Finance specialisation within the Master of Commerce and Master of Commerce (Extension) prepares students for careers in asset management, investment banking, risk management, corporate strategy and regulation. The specialisation covers critical concepts in corporate finance and investments within its core units.
The specialisation’s electives allow students to shape their advanced learning around existing experience and build deep knowledge and technical skills in the key fields of industry. These include corporate valuation, derivative securities, risk management, mergers and acquisitions, portfolio theory, asset pricing and banking. Ethical and social considerations are discussed throughout the specialisation.

Learning is supported through interactive tutorials and current content.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for admission, an applicant is required to have:

  • an Australian bachelor's degree in commerce, business or related discipline with a credit average (65 percent) or equivalent qualification, or
  • an Australian bachelor's degree or higher in commerce, business or related discipline (minimum 50 percent average) or equivalent qualification, and satisfactory performance in the GMAT (for guidance, the class average score is 630) or GMAT Focus Edition (for guidance, the class average score is 585), or 
  • an Australian bachelor's degree in any discipline with a credit average (65 percent) or equivalent qualification and a minimum of one-year relevant work experience, or
  • an Australian bachelor's degree with honours or higher in any discipline with a credit average (65 percent) or equivalent qualification, or
  • the University of Sydney Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate in Commerce with a credit average (65 percent)
