Master of Strategic Communication

Strategic communication has never been more relevant – with the growing importance of digital media, all small, large, public and private organisations need a communication expert.  

The Master of Strategic Communication opens up opportunities that lead into rewarding careers and it is also an excellent option for professionals who would like to progress their skills in this area.  The program is tailored to advance your capacity to succeed in a range of media and communications roles and provide effective strategy and leadership for industry, government and community. 

Develop expertise and gain a set of highly sought-after skills in designing and managing communication strategies, projects and campaigns across a range of media platforms and professional contexts.  

The program provides you with valuable hands-on experience that prepares you for a dynamic career, including:    

  • development of your practical, analytic and creative communication skills
  • project-based work used to develop a portfolio applicable in a range of industry contexts 
  • specialised media training and workshops 
  • professional and networking opportunities

Work placements provide additional access to industry experience. The course has a number of options for completion depending on individual requirements and aspirations.

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

(1) To be considered for admission to this course an applicant must have—
(a) a Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, as recognised by UWA;
and
(b) the equivalent of a UWA weighted average mark of at least 50 per cent; or
(2) completed a Graduate Certificate or Graduate Diploma in Strategic Communication at UWA.
