Graduate Diploma in Law
This degree allows a broad focus or a tailored program. If you do not wish to commit to a full master's degree but already have a law degree, you might consider our Graduate Diploma in Law. In line with our flexible study policy, you may later upgrade to a Master of Laws.
Our postgraduate coursework program is one of Australia's largest, with more than 120 units of study offered each year. We cater to more than 20 areas of specialisation as well as offering a number of specialised units of study, with units taught by our own experts as well as by international visitors.

Course opportunities
If you are not ready to commit to undertaking the LLM but have a law degree and an interest in studying our coursework units, you can start with a Graduate Diploma in Law (GradDipLaw), which consists of four units of study. On successful completion, you may apply for transfer to the master’s degree, which requires a further four units of study.

The Graduate Diploma in Law (GradDipLaw) is designed for legal practitioners and law graduates who wish to upgrade their undergraduate qualification(s) for the purposes of career advancement within the field of law or another relevant area.
PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Available places will be offered to qualified applicants based on merit, according to the following admissions criteria. Admission to candidature for the Graduate Diploma in Law requires a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from the University of Sydney, or an equivalent qualification.
TOEFL - IBT score - A minimum result of 96 overall including a minimum result of 23 in Reading, Listening and Speaking and 25 in Writing
IELTS score - A minimum result of 7.0 overall and a minimum result of 7.0 in each band
TOEFL - PBT score - A minimum result of 592 overall including a minimum result of 4.5 in Writing
Pearsons Test of English - A minimum result of 68 overall and a minimum result of 54 in each band
