The Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) prepares students to become IT professionals.
With a breadth of knowledge across a range of IT sub-disciplines, and a depth of understanding in a specialisation, allowing them to lead and become strong participants in IT team projects.

Job Opportunity Potential

The BIT is designed for a range of careers, depending on the specialisation selected. Software Development: software programmer, software developer, software analyst, software designer. Computer Networks: network engineer, network administrator, network support specialist. Information Systems: junior project manager, IT manager, business analyst.

PSW Opportunity

Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
  • Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ

Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)
Eligible for PSWV
Conditions:

  • Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
  • Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)

Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)

  • Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
  • Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)

Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)

  • Duration: 3 years
  • Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand

- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.

- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.

- Not allowed for part time students.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • A minimum of 14 NCEA credits in each of 3 subjects at Level 3 including 9 credits in mathematics, and a minimum of 14 numeracy credits at Level 1 or higher, and a minimum of 8 literacy credits at Level 2 or higher; or
  • Successful tertiary study, including mathematics at a level equivalent to 9 credits at Level 3; or
  • Successful completion of a Level 4 qualification in Computing; or
  • Equivalent overseas qualification
  • 17 years and over AND
  • IELTS 6.0 with no individual band lower than 5.5 / TOEFL iBT 60 (with a writing score of 18) / PToE academic score of 50 with no band lower than 42 / NZCEL (Academic) L4; and
