La Trobe’s Bachelor of Criminology combines a high-quality criminology education with a commitment to social justice and an emphasis on practical experience.
In first year, you’ll learn about key issues in relation to crime, criminal justice and the connection between the criminal justice system, access to justice and human rights. You’ll also examine the sustainability of our criminal justice system in relation to social, economic and environmental factors.
In second and third year, you’ll study policing, sentencing, corrections, forensics, victimisation, research and policy development, gaining a deeper understanding of the issues and practice of criminal justice. In third year, we provide opportunities for work placements across all sectors of the community, including the criminal justice system and community organisations.

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
- Degree entry: Australian bachelor degree (or international equivalent) with a minimum of a C (60%) grade point average (GPA) in the final year PLUS three years of relevant managerial experience
- Professional entry: Applicants do not require an undergraduate degree but must have a minimum of 8 years' relevant managerial experience 6.0.
- Professional entry (no undergrad degree): International applicants must have a minimum IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5 with no individual band score less than 6.0. Please note that international students studying online are not eligible for an Australian student visa.
