Radford University

Radford , Virginia ,United States

BA in Art History and Museum Studies

Study the history of visual art, from prehistory to contemporary times and explore the role art has played in shaping social and political values in western and non-western societies. Our B.A. in Art with a concentration in art history offers courses on specific time periods, geographical regions, and themes. The concentration is unique in that it gives students the opportunity to specialize in either pre-modern or modern areas of art history; offers museum studies courses at the undergraduate level; and has enough flexibility for students to pursue courses in studio art, history, literature, business, or other disciplines.

Students in art history may find employment in museums, galleries, libraries and archives. By its very nature, art history is interdisciplinary, so it provides good preparation for the pursuit of graduate studies in the humanities. It is especially excellent as preparation for further study in art history, museums, restoration, material culture and art therapy

Job Opportunity Potential

Political science doesn't prepare students for A career. Political Science prepares you for DOZENS of careers.  How can we say that?  Because Political Science immerses you in the skills that employers want:

  • Critical thinking,
  • Information literacy,
  • Oral and written communication,
  • Ethical citizenship,
  • Problem solving,
  • Understanding of diversity/global issues,
  • Collaboration

Political Science majors get jobs. In fact, Political Science is a growth industry.  Many employers hire Political Science majors over others because our unique set of skills makes our majors ready to engage in high-level strategic work from Day One on the job.  Political Science majors are leaders, whose knowledge of history and culture assist them in dealing with clients and dealing with new market trends.  A survey  of employers for the American Association of Colleges & Universities  found that critical thinking, clear communication, and problem solving were more important than any particular undergraduate major in hiring decisions. These are exactly the skills developed and reinforced in Radford’s general education and Political Science curricula.
