Bachelor of Science in Social Work

The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) program provides a strong foundation in social work values, ethics, and practice, with a focus on diversity, social justice, and supporting populations-at-risk. Students gain knowledge in human behavior, social policy, and research, with a unique focus on working with families. The program includes experiential learning through a practicum (internship) to develop skill-building and offer real-world experience in agency settings to prepare graduates for impactful careers.

Social work graduates are eligible for employment in many different work settings, including nursing homes, hospitals, hospices, home-care agencies, substance abuse agencies, mental health services, intellectual disability services, vocational rehabilitation services, public health agencies, community action agencies, family service agencies, aging services, residential treatment programs, child and adult daycare centers, domestic violence programs, homeless shelters, criminal justice agencies, schools, income maintenance programs, and legal service agencies.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

First-year students generally need a state-certified high school diploma or equivalent. They also typically need to have completed four years of English, math, natural science, and social studies in high school, along with a year of fine arts. Transfer students need a minimum GPA of 2.0 in college courses.
