This program is suited for Certified Early Childhood Educators wishing to expand their skills and specializations to include childcare for infants and toddlers.
This program gives the student the skills and occupational competencies necessary in the industry today based on the Ministry of Education and Child Care approved curriculum.
The program focuses on Infants and Toddlers allowing graduates to expand their coverage from Birth to 5 years. Sprott Shaw is a member of Early Childhood Educators of British Columbia (ECEBC).
Learning Objectives
At the end of this program, the student will have developed a specialized set of skills required for childcare for infants through the application and understanding of the following learning outcomes:
Cultural, economic, and generational influences on development
Main categories and methods of observational recording
Current certifying and registration regulations, development of policies and procedures, floor plans, and childcare center design
Development of partnerships with parents, colleagues, and other service providers
Positive contemporary child guidance practices, causes and characteristics of inappropriate behaviour
Planning and implementing comprehensive program plans, focusing on social, emotional, cognitive, physical, language and cultural development
Activities to facilitate diversity and multi-cultural experiences and concepts to enhance the curriculum
Creating a positive learning environment that includes fun and engaging music and movement activities, enhancing other learning such as language and language skills
The use of concepts and activities from LEAP BC 2010
Resource Booklet and recognizing movement categories and motor skills
Creativity and open-ended, process-oriented creative art activities and experiences
Verbal and non-verbal communication skills and techniques.
Design newsletters and communication tools for parents, children and staff
Signs and symptoms of common communicable childhood illnesses
Goal setting, note-taking, problem-solving, and teamwork
Interview techniques and creating an employment package

PSW Opportunity
Eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP):
Graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Desire to stay in Canada temporarily for work.
Important Note:
Graduating from a DLI doesn't automatically qualify you for a PGWP.
Validity of PGWP:
Depends on the length of the study program or the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.
Duration of PGWP Based on Study Program Length:
Less than 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials): Not eligible for PGWP.
At least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials), but less than 2 years: PGWP may be granted for the same length as the study program (e.g., a 9-month program results in a 9-month PGWP).
2 years or more: PGWP may be valid for 3 years.
Completion of Multiple Programs:
PGWP may combine the lengths of each program if:
Each program is PGWP eligible.
Each program is at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length.
Important Restriction:
You cannot obtain a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

score or 20/40); OR
• IELTS overall score of 5.5 (minimum); OR
• TOEFL iBT score of 46; OR
• Completion of an ESL program from one of SSC’s partner ESL
schools; OR
• Equivalent on the table listed below
