Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours)

This is a unique, interdisciplinary program that will prepare you to be a future leader of the information and communications technology revolution.

As a degree accredited by the Australian Computer Society you will not only learn advanced computing techniques and have the opportunity to complete a unique specialization, but also develop exceptional professional skills including communication and teamwork.

While some of our students are developing code that controls unmanned aerial vehicles, others are busy writing algorithms to mine through Peta-bytes of data. If mastering challenging projects is your thing, the ANU Bachelor of Advanced Computing (Honours) can launch you into a spectacular career.

Learning Outcomes

Define and analyze complex problems, and design, implement and evaluate solutions that demonstrate an understanding of the context of the system in which software is developed and operated including economic, social, historical, sustainability, and ethical aspects.
Demonstrate an operational and theoretical understanding of the foundations of computer science including programming, algorithms, logic, architectures, and data structures.
Recognize connections and recurring themes, including abstraction and complexity, across the discipline.
Adapt to new environments and technologies, and to innovate.
Demonstrate an understanding of deep knowledge in at least one area of computer science.
Communicate complex concepts effectively with diverse audiences using a range of modalities.

Our Acton campus is in the heart of Canberra - Australia's capital city - in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT). From here it's an easy walk, bike ride or drive to some of Australia's most significant political and cultural institutions including Australian Parliament House. Amongst our modern lecture halls, libraries, laboratories, student residences and administration buildings, you'll find all the conveniences of a small suburb including cafes, bars, supermarkets, child care centres, a newsagency, post office and even a medical centre.

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants who complete a recognized secondary/senior secondary/post-secondary/tertiary sequence of study will be assessed on the basis of an equivalent selection rank that is calculated upon application. In order to achieve these outcomes, a competitive ranking of applicants may be adjusted to ensure access to ANU is a reality for brilliant students from countries across the globe. If required, the competitive ranking may further be confirmed on the basis of demonstrating higher-level English language proficiency.

A score of 70% or more with no section less than 65%

Academic IELTS An overall score of 6.5 with a minimum of 6.0 in each component of the test.

TOEFL paper based test A score of 570 with a TWE* score of 4.5.

TOEFL internet based test An overall score of 80, with a minimum of 20 in Reading and Writing and 18 in Speaking and Listening.

Cambridge CAE Advanced (Post 2015) An overall score of 176 with a minimum of 169 in all sub-skills.

PTE Academic An overall score of 64 with a minimum score of 55 in each of the communicative skills.
