Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education)
The early years of life are a time of rapid brain development as the foundations of learning and development are laid. High quality early childhood education makes a difference to the lives of young children during their prior-to-school years and the early years of schooling. As an Early Childhood Education student you will focus on the education and care of children aged from birth to eight years, learning about educational psychology and sociology, early childhood curricula, and pedagogy.
Overall you will experience 120 days of workplace learning in a range of early childhood (prior to school) and school locations. We draw on our strong partnerships in a variety of educational settings to organise suitable placement for you in a variety of venues.
This course is nationally accredited through the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) in association with the Queensland College of Teachers (QCT). Graduates of this course will be eligible to apply for Teacher registration in Australia.
The Bachelor of Education1 (Early Childhood Education) is also fully accredited with ACECQA, the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority.

Job Opportunity Potential
Early Childhood Education is a specialized field of education that leads to leadership positions in kindergartens and preschools or teaching positions in international schools in Singapore, and teaching positions in schools, preschools, kindergartens and child care centres in Australia. The degree also qualifies you to teach in the UK, and New Zealand. Recognition of the qualification in other nations needs to be individually pursued.
PSW Opportunity
- The International Students studying in certain institutions in Singapore are allowed to work part time for 16 hours per week as mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore.
- Students who have studied in the institutions mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore are allowed to apply for a Long Term Visitor Pass.
- They are allowed to look for a job during this time period.This is for 12 months.If the students get a job during this time period, the employer may sponsor for an Employment pass.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Entry Requirements
- The entrance requirements differ from country to country but in general applicants must have satisfactorily completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent
- Successful completion of the James Cook University Foundation Program will also satisfy the entrance requirement
Pre-requisite
- English subject equivalent to Grade D or higher in A level English or any language rich subject, or Grade C or higher in AS level English and/or successful completion of any English language rich subject deemed comparable to Australian standards, assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Additional Requirements
- Applicant needs to submit a QTAC Online Questionnaire / Personal Statement for assessment
- Mathematics A or B or C subject equivalent to Grade D or higher in A level Mathematics, or Grade C or higher in AS level Mathematics, or Grade of C or higher in O level Mathematics
- Science subject equivalent to Grade D or higher in A level or C or higher in AS level: Biology, Biology (Human), Chemistry, Physics.
English Requirements
- Applicants of non-English speaking backgrounds must meet the English language proficiency requirements of an overall score of 6.5 in Academic IELTS (or equivalent) with sub-scores no less than 7.0 in Speaking and Listening and no less than 6.0 in Reading and Writing; or
- Satisfactory completion of James Cook University Singapore English Language Preparatory Program (ELPP)
