Master of Engineering Studies

The MEngSt allows students with academic engineering backgrounds to expand their existing theoretical and practical skills. It is flexible – you can study either full-time or part-time, undertake either a primarily coursework or research-focused program, and choose from sixteen distinct specializations.

This program ultimately requires an in-depth exploration of your chosen topic. You will demonstrate high-quality critical thinking and problem-solving skills that are sought-after by employers worldwide or consider this as a foundation for further study.

Campus Information

City Campus

The City Campus is right in the heart of Auckland. You are within walking distance of all the main cultural, entertainment and commercial hubs.

Newmarket Campus

This is a new five-hectare campus adjacent to the major business area in Newmarket. It will provide the University with a site for expansion over the next 50 years.

Grafton Campus

Originally established as the School of Medicine, the Grafton Campus (opposite Auckland Hospital on the boundary of Auckland Domain) houses the Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences, including a café, health services, and the Philson Library.

PSW Opportunity

During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

You must have completed either:

A BE or BE(Hons) and passed with a GPA of 4.0 in at least 60 points at Stage III.
Or
A relevant Bachelors degree with a GPA of 4.0 or higher in 60 points above Stage II and at least three years of relevant professional experience approved by the Programme Director
Or
A BE or BE(Hons) and passed 60 points toward a relevant postgraduate certificate or postgraduate diploma with a GPA of 4.0 or higher.
Or
A relevant Bachelors degree and a relevant Postgraduate Diploma (or equivalent) with a GPA of 4.0 or higher

Whether a qualification is considered relevant will depend on the courses passed and the applicant’s intended specialisation. Qualifications in Engineering, Architecture, Planning or Science, for example, may be considered relevant.
